Instead of asking why guys are looking at you all the time while you wear skimpy clothing, maybe you could consider the possibility that you have just as much right as men to look at men (or women if that is your thing) as they do to you. The only difference is that they aren’t wearing skimpy clothing, and you should possibly consider the fact that you don’t have to wear skimpy clothing either. And if after that you still find that you really want to wear them, ask yourself why. If the reason is that you think you look good in them, maybe you aren’t as progressive as a feminist as you think you are because you still pander to the patriarchal society that you are complaining about by giving people you don’t want looking at you something to look at. I would love to have this argument proven wrong to me without mention of my gender, sex, social status, or anything about me personally for that matter. Honestly I would.

While I respect the thoroughness of your theory, I’m going to have to kindly disagree.

Questioning someone’s right/ability/choice to wear whatever clothing they like, regardless of the extent to which it covers them up and/or reveals, is taking the burden of self-control off the person observing them.

You make a giant assumption about the way that the patriarchy and historical social constructs/institutions effect the psyche of the woman in question.   You also make your own estimation and scale pertaining to the progressivity of the feminist movement, imposing your own opinion of what feminism should be as fuel for your own argument, thus turning what you thought to be a factual, logical chain of intellect into one giant opinion piece.

You’re right when you say that a person has equal right to look at another person regardless of either one’s gender declaration.  The problem doesn’t occur when people are looking at other people.  The problem occurs when a certain sector of (statistically white, cis, hetero) males take it too far as a result of the entitlement they feel from patriarchal empowerment.  And therein lies a core component of why feminists fight the patriarchy:

Entitlement always trumps self-control.
